Life these days is crazy and busy and chaotic and fun and exhilarating and stressful and exciting all at the same time. I love it.
Just to give a recap of where we're at in our lives right now...
Both of us are going to school full time at UVU. Jason's studying to be an elementary school teacher because he loves kids, probably because he's a kid himself. I'm studying psychology to become a counselor or therapist, although I'm thinking about switching to social work because my favorite class right now is a social work class. Between the two of us, our future kids are going to have the best parents ever.
We're adjusting to marriage slowly in some ways and quickly in others. I'm still trying to figure out how two people manage to have three times as much laundry as one person.
Both of us are still managers at the Orem Costa Vida, which is fun because we get to boss people around and we get free sweet pork or chips and queso whenever we want. Doing dishes until 1:00 in the morning because the dishwasher didn't show up again though... that's not so fun.
Between school and work we still like to have some fun. A few weeks ago my family took a Labor Day vacation to Lagoon, something we've never done as a family before (except for once when I was like four, but that doesn't count). We had a great time all day, taking turns taking Alex on rides. We even got my mom on the Rocket! That was a real accomplishment.
Last week we took a trip to Colorado with Jason's family for his cousin's wedding reception. I haven't been in a road trip in awhile and we had a ton of fun. Not to mention that Colorado was beautiful. We took our nephew Porter in our car on the way there and I've never seen a better behaved two year old. Also I spent the entire weekend holding my niece Olivia who's five months old. She is 100% adorable and I have to keep reminding myself that babies are a ton of work and I still have a lot of school left so we really shouldn't be considering having any of our own.
Also, we're moving again in about a month and a half to Sandy, Utah. My Grandma and Grandpa Ellis have turned their basement into an apartment that they've been renting to their grandkids, but now the current occupants are moving out and they've run out of grandkids, so they're moving on to the great-grandkids. And the best part is that it's free! And we'll have a yard to help out with. I never knew how much I appreciated grass until I didn't have any. Jason and I are super excited to get out of Orem and Provo, mostly because we grew up in separate corners of the middle of nowhere and there are far too many people in Utah County. Not that Sandy is exactly Timbuktu either, but at least we'll live in a neighborhood instead of an apartment complex.
Last Wednesday we met my family for brunch and then drove to the MTC to drop Erik off for the next two years. I don't remember a time when Erik wasn't in my life. Being only twelve months apart will do that to you. But I know he'll be an incredible missionary and Florida is lucky to have him. Still, it was weird sitting on the church pew yesterday with only four of us--including me and Jason.
So in the midst of all of this, we packed up our little car and drove up American Fork Canyon and found ourselves our own little campsite. Jason went fishing and I set up the tent and started a fire and chilled at camp for awhile. We sat up and watched the fire and looked at the stars and ate tinfoil dinners seasoned with dirt and without utensils because we forgot them. The next morning we hiked up a mountain and fished some more and then hiked back down, and the whole thing took less than 24 hours but it was exactly what we needed.
Because when things get hectic, as they sometimes will, there's no better remedy for the stress and exhaustion than leaving it all behind for a little while, putting everything in perspective, and enjoying the simple beauty and wonder of the world God created. I really believe that.

This isn't even including all the clothes I hung in the closet. Or the ones I didn't wash because I'm trying to conserve my laundry quarters.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate the skill of the photobomber in the back.

Not even a backward glance.

Jason has an inability to smile and take selfies at the same time, so now I'm in charge of taking the selfies.

One of our last family photos. You can ignore Alex's face. He really was happy to be there.
