So camp counseling is exhausting. Camping in general is exhausting, but when you're doing it for nine weeks straight and mother henning a whole bunch of girls who chose to be there but sometimes don't want to be there... that can get tiring real fast.
The good news is every counselor had one or two weeks to be an "SOS" counselor--Staff on Support. Week 2 was my SOS week and it was a party. Also, my sister came up to camp!!!
Ash and I have not always been super close, but over the last few years I've grown to absolutely love her and her spunky personality. She is so different from 12-year-old me but in a good way. Having her up at camp was one of the highlights of the summer.
We did have a small incident that needed to be addressed:
Sunday night I gave Ashlyn strict instructions that she was to call me Queen Bee for the week. She agreed. She even practiced calling me that before she ever left for camp. Monday morning I got up early and headed down the canyon with the other SOS to help direct everyone to their buses and stuff. We were also responsible for each riding a bus back up to camp and singing songs and getting the girls excited. I, of course, boarded my sister's bus and I kid you not, the first thing she said was "Kiersten!!" for the entire bus to hear.
I pretended to be more upset than I actually was. I mean, with at least eight girls up there that I knew, it was highly unlikely that it would have remained a secret for long.
Having Ash up at camp with me was such a special experience. Like I said, we haven't always been super close. I have a distinct memory of me locking her in her room, putting a laundry hamper in front of it, and then commissioning Erik to help me hold the door closed because she wouldn't listen to me when I was babysitting one night. Or there was the time I got so frustrated with her (though I don't remember why) that I threw a book at her head. And who can forget the day Rachel and I tied her up with a jump-rope just for the heck of it?
And yet, she still loves me. And as I've grown older I've come to truly love her so so much. She is different from me. She's more outgoing, more spunky, more fun, more picky, (how can you hate scrambled eggs??), more confident, more happy than 12-year-old Kiersten. But she's also just as big of a bookworm as I am, if not more. She teases me about makeup but still got upset when I accidentally took her mascara to college. She teases me about boys just as much as I tease her. She pretends to hate running just like I did but wait two or three years and she'll be running on that same team I did. She'll never be as tall as me but her bright smile will always make up for it. She can do her hair better than I can do mine and she has a talent for sleeping in that I don't possess.
My mom and her sisters are all so close, and I've grown up hearing apologies that I only have one sister. But I've never felt jipped. I don't have three sisters it's true, but I have one extraordinary sister who more than makes up for it, who I love more than anything, who is one of my very best friends in the entire world.
This one's for BamBam, Ash the Gash, Princess, My Fav L'il Sis, Ashlyn.

| Don't let that demonic smile fool you. She's actually pretty cute. |

| I guess if I had to choose between chocolate and eggs I'd take the chocolate too. |
