After spending most of 2022 recovering from an interstate move, being tired and pregnant, and learning to parent not one but two wild boys, we thought we'd spend 2023 enjoying ourselves. And we did!
- Jason tried his hand at an ice fishing tournament. He had a great time!
- We spent some time in Ferron. Wes made friends with my cousins Emily and Branch, and Jason indoctrinated Ash into ice fishing.
February
- We celebrated Dayna's 30th birthday at Fat Cats! Kids were not technically invited, so ours were party crashers.
April
- Ryan and Aubrey hosted an Easter lunch and egg hunt, and it was such a fun, beautiful warm day!
- We visited Brianna and Josh in St. George and took the boys to Zion's for the day.
- Great-great-grandpa Bob Ellis died, and Wesley met his great-great-grandma Mary at the funeral. We lived with Bob and Mary for two years when we were first married. Oliver was born while we lived with them.
May
- Jason's cousin Katie got married! We got to see some Colorado family for the first time in awhile.
- We toured the Saratoga Springs Temple during the open house.
- I turned 24.
- Oliver turned 3.
- We took a road trip to Oregon! Some of our highlights were
- staying in Bend - good fishing for Ash and Jason
- the windy canyon on the way to the Newport Aquarium - during an Oliver potty break, Jason spied a great fishing hole he'll sadly never get to try out
- the Portland Zoo - lots of busy, active animals!
- deep sea fishing and crabbing
- and the boys' first time seeing the ocean
June
- We took the boys to the Herriman days carnival; Oliver and Campbell spent all their tokens riding the little cars
- We hiked to Lake Blanche with friends from our ward -- we are really loving the people we live close to!
July
- For our 5th anniversary Jason and I took a little trip to Texas. We visited
- Austin
- best BBQ we've ever had
- canoed the Colorado river
- took a walk down 6th street
- San Antonio
- visited the San Antonio temple
- remembered the Alamo but forgot to take a picture of it
- took a walk on the Riverwalk
- Houston
- visited Jason's childhood friend Corinne and her cute family
- toured NASA
- walked through a state park with Corinne's family and almost got eaten by a mama alligator
- Oliver and Wesley had a great time at Mama Missy's house with Erik and Emma.
- Jason and I ran the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon with my mom and Aunt Katie! Jason beat me by barely a minute, which is very frustrating.
- We visited Moab with Jason's family, including a sunrise hike to Delicate Arch and an afternoon hike to a swimming hole.
August
- We took the boys on their only camping trip of the summer at a family reunion.
- A few of our friends and family donated money to help with the Maui relief effort and we took the boys on a shopping spree.
- Wesley turned 1! We had a party for him at Mama Missy's house. We love seeing all the people who love our boys as much as we do.
- Ryan and Aubrey got married!
September
- My dad turned 50 and we celebrated at Maddox in Ogden.
- Jason took a weeklong backpacking trip to the Wind Rivers with an old friend he worked at Scout Camp with.
- We took another trip to Moab with friends this time. Annette watched our boys. They love staying with Grandma.
- Oliver and his friend Campbell went to see the Paw Patrol movie with their dads. It was a hit!
October
- We got new family pictures done, courtesy of Erik. Wesley has made it to the family photo wall.
- We took the boys to HeeHaw farms. They had a better experience this year than last year.
- Brianna and I took our babies on a hike to Gloria Falls.
- Jason built a shed for my work friend Martina. I helped a little bit.
- We took Marshall and Chase trick or treating!
November
- We spent an afternoon at Wheeler Farm.
- I chopped my hair.
- We spent Thanksgiving in Lake Point. Alex helped Oliver and Wesley build their first snowman.
December
- The boys visited Santa at Cabela's and didn't even cry.
- Wes got his first haircut.
- We went to the lights at Luminaria for the Olson Family Christmas Party.
- Annette took the boys overnight for Jason's birthday, and Jason and I ate the best meal of our lives at a very nice restaurant 5 minutes from our house. This will not be good for our budget. We also saw a play at the Desert Star Theater.
- We took the boys to the Giving Machines at City Creek and saw a few lights on Temple Square.
- We did Christmas Eve with Jason's family and spent Christmas at our own house for the first time in our married lives. These boys sure are spoiled.
- We did Christmas with the Leary's the day after Christmas.
- We went to see Elf! The Musical at the Hale Theater with my family.
- We took a quick last minute trip to Ferron and Jason and Kurtis did some more ice fishing. We got an updated picture of the babies.
- We celebrated New Year's with friends at our house. Oliver stayed up until 1:30am!
What a fun year. Now we need a few months at home to relax.
