Some More About Brighton (Sorry Not Sorry)

In all the craziness of the last several months I forgot to mention something SUPER EXCITING which is that I got to go back up to Brighton for a night!!!

Queen Bee and Baby Bee when I was
still significantly taller than her. Soon
she will have to change her name to
Tween Bee. (Name Credit: Amanda)
Every Thursday up at camp we have a devotional where a speaker is invited to come up, as well as family and friends of the current staff members and any past staff that would like to attend. So the week that Ash (Baby Bee) was up there I dragged Jason up Big Cottonwood Canyon to my favorite place on earth. The peace and joy that filled my soul as I sat and smelled the pine trees and breathed the mountain air and sang my favorite songs with some of my favorite people was much needed.

After the devotional I excitedly chatted with several of my former staff members who I haven't seen in nearly a year, some of whom are blessed enough to work there another summer. Scribbles, my old roommate, laughed as she told me that at the beginning of the summer the directorship had looked at several of the counselors who were kind of quiet and shy and termed them "Queen Bee counselors", and sure enough, halfway through the summer they grew into their roles and let their guards down enough to let their happy, spunky personalities shine. That's the kind of counselor I was, and that's kinda how I live my life, whether I want to or not. When I'm thrown into a new situation with a new group of people I'm not really the one to be outgoing and fun until I've gauged the group dynamics.

Regular camera selfies make for some
great shots of my double chin
Starting school again this year and moving (again) into a new ward have presented some of the same old challenges as last year. I have a hard time putting myself out there, being the one to initiate conversation with the girl sitting next to me or make a comment in Relief Society or go meet the neighbors next door. I've never considered myself shy but I've started to realize I kind of am. And that's when I have to remember that no, I don't really have friends yet in school or at church. But I have Jason, so that's pretty cool. And I still have my friends from high school and my first year of college, I just don't see them every day like I used to. And I'll make new friends, because when it comes to being a Queen Bee counselor, or a Queen Bee student or classmate or coworker or whatever, I'm the expert.

I am Queen Bee.

Me and Scribbles. She's pretty cool. And
she's a better selfie taker.
